Joost Geevers-van Acht

conductor since 2016

Joost Geevers-van Acht has been the principal conductor of the Goois Symphony Orchestra since March 2016.  He replaced Pedro López López, who had led the orchestra for five years.

Besides conducting, Joost Geevers-van Acht plays the trombone, and he is also a composer and writer.  He studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague.  As a free-lance trombone player, Joost plays with the Residentie Orchestra, the Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Ballet Orchestra, the Orkest van het Oosten, the Radio Philharmonic, and the Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble.

Even as a student, he performed as assistant conductor for orchestras and ensembles, including the Residentie Orkest and the Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble.  He also conducted the Dutch premières of Ives' Universe Symphony with the Noord Nederlands Orkest and Stockhausen's Hochzeiten aus Sonntag aus Licht, with the Radio Philharmonic.  The première of Ives' Universe Symphony was highly acclaimed, and its popularity led to repeat performances the following year in the prestigious Cité de la Musique in Paris.  In 2008-2009 he was conductor at the Ligeti Academy and of the Asko-Schoenberg Ensemble.

Joost Geevers-van Acht is an advocate of contemporary music at home and abroad, and has worked with many new-music ensembles, including the Ives Ensemble, Slagwerk Den Haag, de Diamant Fabriek, Århus Sinfonietta, Ensemble de Música Contemporanea de Illes Balears and the Hafnia Chamber Orchestra.

He is also founder and musical leader of contemporary musical theatre groups,  Fast Opera Productions and Neo-fanfare 9x13.

In 2015 his first book, "In gesprek met de oude meesters,"  was published.
